Ok ... just to demonstarte how cold "cold" really can be ... the pics below are of the Hudson river ... yes the river, taken from the leasing office of the building we have agreed to live in from next month. As you can see, the first 100m or so heading in to the river is frozen ... the wharves are stuck in the ice ... very cool (pardon the pun!)

PS -- I've updated my webalbums with some pics of the foyer of the apartment we're staying in now ... all very nice ... we don't have a doorman here, but we have an "elevator attendant" ... who knew there was still such a job!!? (Oh, and we live above Victoria's Secret ... it's a hard life!)
